My Blog List

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Okay, okay. Sterling did it first. Then Danny came through. Now, Adam. Adam already wins for not doing a top 10 and also for including his favorite snack of the decade. (Spoiler: It's pickle with potato chip) So, I've gotten almost all of my work done and figured this morning is the morning. It's nothing original really, and oh my god last year's list was really good. I was thinking this year is better, but it's really hard to say. Who knows?

THE BEST ALBUMS OF 2009, IN MY OPINION.

16. Bob Dylan: Together Through Life

I'd probably still put this on here even if I didn't like it.

15. Bonnie "Prince" Billy: Beware

Don't forget about this psychopath.

14. Rattler: Incoming

It has been a long time coming and well worth the wait. Top notch, awesome party music including a full on skit intro to a song with cops spotting the band drunk driving! Perfect.

13. Bowerbirds: Upper Air

New to me, and I'm loving it! Very nice to listen to.

12. Islands: Vapours

Pop Perfection!

11. Woods: Songs of Shame

Tight distorted voice, jerk. Really a good album though. See: Military Madness

10. Loudon Wainwright III: High, Wide, and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project

Duh. Basically, the coolest dude reworking the coolest dude's songs.

9. Cass McCombs: Catacombs

Got this when it came out and let it fade away. Danny reminded me, it's about as good at it gets...absolutely a great album.

8. Wye Oak: The Knot

Should be number one just for being from Baltimore. One of my favorite songs of the year is on this album.

7. Vetiver: Tight Knit

This album shakes me up inside!

6. Phosphorescent: To Willie

One of the best live shows around...Phosphorescent tributes Willie Nelson with grace and elan.

5. Girls: Album

Comin' up with the ol' one-two punch late in the year, huh boys? Well, good on ya, cause this album is awesome. Sounds like you've picked 5 awesome genres and figured out how to play them just right and made an album. Also, best music video the GPs can never make...thanks a lot, jerks.

4. Peter and the Wolf: Mellow Owl

Always consistent. Great album.

3. Smallhands: Smallhands

Ex-Fade singer/multi-instrumentalist's innovative and fresh debut. Need I say more?

2. Bill Callahan: Sometimes I Wish I Were an Eagle

This is the bomb album we are listening to. If you are not listening to this right now, why aren't you? Best songs, best lyrics, best dude.

1. Dirty Projectors: Bitte Orca

You've all heard my feelings about this. DPs are the jam. Best live show around, no questions. Most talented. Best Dressed. Fickle. Most Likely to succeed. Worst Hair. Most likely to fuck.
